Neighborhood Revitalization

Our work positions all communities within St. Bernard Parish to be as attractive as possible, meeting the balance between neighborhood needs and development-readiness.

SBEDF partners with Parish Government, the St. Bernard Tourist Commission, and Louisiana Economic Development to ensure St. Bernard is primed for new residents and investment from outside parties. Whether it be assisting Sold on St. Bernard in highlighting our beautiful new residential construction, submitting grant applications for infrastructure improvements, sponsoring community events like the Redfish World Series, or zone-planning certain areas for new projects and job creation, we help St. Bernard stay on the front lines of progress.

Sold on St. Bernard

Sold on St. Bernard is a St. Bernard Parish Government (SBPG)-sponsored program that provides Home Builders with access to lots to redevelop neighborhoods. With Parish support and guidance, builders are helping to bring back whole streets and neighborhoods through the unique Sold on St. Bernard program. Back in 2015, SBEDF partnered with SBPG to bring this program to life.

This special program has spurred unprecedented numbers in new residential construction permits issued, and is helping St. Bernard attract a new demographic.

St. Bernard Tourist Commission

The mission of the St. Bernard Tourist Commission (SBTC) is to promote and market St. Bernard's rich history, culture, festivals and recreational opportunities. The Tourist Commission is active in many events throughout the year including the Battle of New Orleans Commemoration, Islenos Fiesta, Tourism Awareness Week, the Redfish World Series and other fishing tournaments, scenic byways, Sippin’ in the Sunset, Wine Down Wednesdays, Christmas on the Bayou, and trade shows. Our neighborhoods, from Arabi to the coast, benefit from the hundreds of annual events in the parish.

Old Arabi Cultural Arts District

The area known as Old Arabi is made up of two historic districts: The Old Arabi Historic District, 150 acres bordering Jackson Barracks and the Mississippi River including parts of Mehle, Angela, and Esteban Streets, and the Friscoville Street Historic District, 160 acres from the 100-900 blocks of Friscoville. Old Arabi was named one of America's Prettiest Painted places in a 2012 nationwide search conducted by the Paint Quality Institute of America for the stunning use of color on the area's elaborate historical homes and buildings.

As we look forward, continuing our momentum is not without challenges. The support of our private partners is absolutely pivotal in our ability to accomplish our mission and expand our impact.
