SBEDF and St. Bernard Chamber Initiate Leadership St. Bernard Program

The St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce and St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation began its first-ever Leadership St. Bernard Program in 2014. Class topics include regional perspectives, quality of life (including public safety, healthcare, and tourism), education, industry and the port, organizational structure and governance, state governmental affairs, and St. Bernard Parish Government. Leadership St. Bernard also includes a class project, an opening orientation, and a class graduation and reception.

What is Leadership St. Bernard?

Leadership St. Bernard is designed to educate and to engage citizens in identifying needs, resources, and opportunities for St. Bernard Parish. It is a program based on a national model used by Chambers throughout the country to develop individuals as leaders within their communities. While the program is new to St. Bernard Parish, it has a long history of building successful leaders throughout the nation, state, and neighboring parishes.

Leadership St. Bernard is an innovative program sponsored by The St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation and St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce to assist in preparing emerging community leaders for positions in local government, business and community affairs. The purpose is to provide a forum that motivates and increases the awareness of potential leaders by giving them an intense course which encompasses a broad scope of community concerns.

Who should participate/apply for the program?

Participation is open any individual who resides or works in St. Bernard Parish; however, the number of participants accepted each year is limited. Similar programs have participants that include corporate executives, educators, bankers, attorneys, entrepreneurs, homemakers, volunteers, retailers, physicians, mayors, elected officials, clergy, realtors, health care providers, firemen, police, parish council, tourism, a host of other industries, and YOU! Whether you are currently in a leadership role or just aspire to be, anyone invested in the future of St. Bernard Parish can benefit from this program.
