SBEDF 2018 Outlook
A Message from the Chair of the SBEDF Board of Directors
As Chair of the St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation (SBEDF), I know first-hand the challenges and mindset required to achieve long-term, sustainable success. In economic development, “wins” require perseverance and develop from various streams of work.
A series of achievements were reached in 2017 after mutli-year projects. The first-ever property in St. Bernard Parish received the Louisiana Economic Development development-ready certification. “Startup St. Bernard,” our entrepreneurship competition held in conjunction with the Meraux Foundation and The Idea Village, awarded its largest prize package in the program’s history. And we worked to attract Canseco’s Markets to Old Arabi and Tractor Supply Co. in Meraux, two highly desired amenities.
However, we also laid the groundwork for the future. In 2017, we put into place numerous programs designed to mature the film industry, grow the retail sector, and nurture our stout base of locally-owned small businesses. We also looked inward and hosted an SBEDF Strategic Retreat where we evaluated areas for internal improvement.
The mission of SBEDF is to retain and create jobs, build prosperity, and improve the quality of life in St. Bernard Parish. Our triumphs are only possible through our hard-working staff, committed Board of Directors, driven elected officials, and generous investors. With the path laid out in 2017, I’m confident that the best is yet to come.
Deborah D. Keller, 2017-2018 SBEDF Chair
