SBEDF RELEASES 2018 ANNUAL REVIEW
ST. BERNARD PARISH, LA — St. Bernard Parish is on the rise. Recognized as the 8th fastest-growing small county in the United States from 2010-2017 according to US Census Data, The Parish continues to see a surge of new residents and businesses calling St. Bernard home. While growth can be found throughout the parish’s main population centers including Chalmette, Meraux, and Violet; Arabi continues to see a standout influx of new residents. Recognized as the 6thfastest-growing suburb in the United States according to Realtor.com, Arabi is on pace to have another record setting year of growth. New construction permits issued for residential properties increased 40% from the previous year according to the St. Bernard Parish Office of Community Development.
St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation (SBEDF) has released its 2018 Annual Review highlighting a series of big wins for the community located a few miles downriver from the French Quarter and New Orleans Central Business District. A new tax incentive, Film St. Bernard, designed to complement the state’s rebate program drove millions of dollars of investment and revenues for businesses in St. Bernard. St. Bernard Parish Hospital solidified its managing partnership with Ochsner Health Systems to ensure access to quality healthcare services for parish residents and underserved neighboring communities. Several of St. Bernard Parish’s top employers including Valero, Chalmette Refining, Associated Terminals and Boasso Global added new jobs. SBEDF also celebrated the success of its small business programming including Startup St. Bernard, Grow St. Bernard, and Shop Small Week.
SBEDF Executive Director, Andrew Jacques, believes 2018 was a great indicator of the direction of St. Bernard Parish. “It’s hard not to notice the tremendous growth taking place in The Parish.” Nearly thirty businesses celebrated a ribbon cutting or grand opening including Holiday Inn Express, Shoe Encore, Clean Course Meals, and Aniston Lane Clothing Boutique. “SBEDF was thrilled to work with several of these businesses to expand here in St. Bernard Parish,” explained Jacques. “We’ve provided a variety of services including site search & location, tax incentive expertise, zoning and permitting assistance, public relations and marketing, along with a handful of other activities that not only attract businesses to our parish, but help their projects cross the finish line.”
SBEDF reminds the business community that they offer confidential one-on-one business consultations to facilitate the retention and expansion of jobs in St. Bernard Parish. New, growing, and pre-revenue businesses may seek business concierge services by phone
