New Markets Tax Credit Program Receives 5-year, $25B Extension

The federal New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program received a 5-year, $25 billion extension as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. While much of the attention around this bill (rightfully) focused on the COVID-19 stimulus package, the NMTC extension is significant for impact development over the next 5 years and deserves recognition. The extension is the largest in the program’s history, surpassing the $17.5 billion extension authorized in 2015.
